Experience
Currently, I am a full-time professor at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and a Research Associate at the National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution). I had authored nearly 40 scientific publications, gave numerous presentations and conducted extensive lab- and fieldwork throughout the world. My scientific contributions received many awards and grants, including those from the National Science and John Templeton Foundations. For several consecutive years I have received the 'Super Professor' award by NOVA at my home institution. I also was a visiting professor at the First International Summer School on Evolution (Lisbon, Portugal) and Kasetsart University (Bangkok, Thailand). In my teaching, I aspire to provide a vibrant and interdisciplinary perspective on the natural world and to offer students an intellectually challenging, fulfilling, and memorable experience. I am certain that I can help students not only effectively learn various aspects of biological sciences while enjoying the process, but also I can equip them with tools for success in the future, critical thinking being the most important one. I try to excite students’ enthusiasm and creativity by teaching biology as a dynamic, continuously evolving discipline, rather than a set of dogmas entrenched in tradition.
